New plans announced for parental leave and flexible working rights

This week the Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry announced plans to introduce new rights for shared parental leave for working parents as well as an extension to the right to request flexible working.

Dr Farry's announcement, made on Monday 14 April, follows a consultation with local stakeholders in 2013.  The changes will allow parents to share the leave and pay entitlement following the birth or adoption of a child, enabling parents to choose to be at home together or to work at different times and share the care of their child.

In addition there will be a wide extension of the right to request flexible working to all employees.

It is envisaged the changes will be implemented in April 2015.  For further information and to access the full Departmental response, please go to:
