NICVA condemns murder of PSNI Officer Ronan Kerr

The Police Service of Northern Ireland is the police service of the community and an attack on the police service is an attack on the community.

Seamus McAleavey, Chief Executive of NICVA, expressing his sympathy to the Kerr family said,

“Ronan Kerr was an example of a fine young man dedicating himself to public service, doing a job that the whole community wanted him to do”.

“The people who took his life so cynically have been rejected by the Irish people north and south on this island.  The only unity they have achieved is the unity of this community in total opposition to them and their methods”.

“This community, like every other, needs a police service to protect them and make them safe and the police service in turn needs the support of the people.  That is what we have in Northern Ireland today and no unrepresentative grouping of malcontents can now change that”.
