NICVA joins with the entire Voluntary & Community sector and wider community in condemning the senseless attack on Det Ch Insp John Caldwell.

Northern Ireland has long since moved on from this kind of violence and we add our voice to the widespread condemnation from all sides.

Chief Executive Celine McStravick said: “I am horrified at the senseless and barbaric attack on Det CH Insp John Caldwell.

As well as being a dedicated public servant, Det Ch Insp Caldwell was an active member of his community and for this to happen to him whilst he was volunteering with young people makes it even more shocking.

Det Ch Insp Caldwell was making Northern Ireland a better place, not just through his police work but through his work with young people in his community.

My thoughts, and the thoughts of everyone at NICVA, go out to him, his family and the wider community in Omagh.
