NJC Payscales 2018 – 2020
The National Joint Council for Local Government Services has confirmed the pay deal, setting new pay rates from 1 April 2018 and 1 April 2019.
NJC payscales are used widely in the voluntary and community sector, although they are local government scales negotiated by the employer and trade union sides of the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. NICVA is not involved in any way in these negotiations.
This is a two year pay agreement from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2020 and the current NJC payscales are from SCP 6 to SCP 49. Whilst some local councils produce pay points and scales past point 49, these are not official NJC scales.
The Pay Offer
Year One: 1 April 2018
The Employers considered it was necessary for higher increases on the lower pay points (SCPs 6-19 inclusive) in order to continue to close the significant gap with the National Living Wage (NLW) For SCPs 20 and above there has been a flat 2% rate of increase.
Year Two: 1 April 2019
From 1 April 2019, the intention is that the bottom rate of the new pay scheme should 'get ahead' of the NLW and as such there are significant proposed changes to the pay spine.
NICVA will update the website with its payscales which shall reflect this change in due course. In the meantime further information can be found here and here.
