Rehabilitation of Offenders – Consultation
DoJ has launched a consultation on proposals to reform rehabilitation periods in Northern Ireland.
The consultation can be found here.
The legislation has been in place unchanged since 1978 while changes have been made in other UK regions, the Republic of Ireland and many other states.
For NIACRO this is a key consultation, so they are hosting a series of events for different interest groups - employers as well as agencies working in criminal justice.
If you would like to engage with NIACRO and perhaps are considering responding to the consultation which closes on the 5 March 2021, please email [email protected] by 27 January 2021 to register for a Zoom event to be held on 29 January 2021 from 2.00 – 3.30 pm.
Zoom details will be emailed to those who register.
Please engage - this legislation needs to be changed as it impacts so many people in so many ways. Under the current rehabilitation legislation, criminal records and when they are considered 'spent' affects people when applying for employment, volunteering, education, insurance, financial products, travel etc, often for life.
