Unhappy with a Charity Commission decision made prior to May 2019?

The Charities Act (NI) 2022 will reinstate the vast majority of decisions made by Charity Commission staff prior to the end of May 2019.

Every restored decision will come with refreshed appeal rights for the charities affected and, in some cases, other people affected by them.

The deadline for submitting an appeal is 29 June 2022 as there is a strict timeline of 91 days from the date the legislation received Royal Assent (30 March 2022) in which to lodge an appeal.

An appeal can be lodged to the Charity Commission via its ‘decision review’ process and/or by lodging an appeal with the charity tribunal.   For more information on how to lodge an appeal and on what decisions do and don’t have refreshed appeal rights, see the Commission’s detailed guidance New appeal rights | The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (charitycommissionni.org.uk)
