Work and Cancer Toolkit

Macmillan Cancer has launched an excellent Work and Cancer Toolkit.

The Work and Cancer Toolkit aims at helping employees, managers, occupational health and human resources professionals handle issues around cancer and work.

Did you know that Under Disability Discrimination Act, it’s unlawful for an employer to discriminate against a person because of their disability? Everyone with cancer is classed as disabled under the act. Even if a person who had cancer in the past has been successfully treated and is now ‘cured’, they will still be covered by the act. This means their employer must not discriminate against them for a reason relating to their past cancer.

Macmillan Cancer offer practical advice about how you can support employees affected by cancer, including your responsibilities as an employer and your employees' rights The Toolkit can be ordered for free by going to: http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Cancerinformation/Livingwithandaftercancer/Workandcancer/Employerpack.aspx
