Faith: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the faith sector
Many faith sector organisations are committed to EDI and strive to create environments and cultures where everyone can feel safe, feel that they belong and be empowered to achieve their full potential.
In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 provides legal protection for nine protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. For many faith-based community organisations that are motivated by particular beliefs and practices, these protected characteristics raise diverse and interesting questions about how EDI can be implemented in their sector. Seeking to go beyond legal compliance, should faith organisations explore what workplace equality inclusion and diversity (EDI) means and consider developing an EDI strategy for their organisation. This session looks at the rationale for action and outlines steps organisations can take to implement and manage a successful EDI strategy.
