Sustrans

Sustrans

Sustrans works through practical projects such as the national cycle network and safe routes to schools - to design and build routes for cyclists and walkers. These routes provide for journeys to work, to school and leisure.

There are now over 1000 miles of National Cycle Network across Northern Ireland, many of which link to the Republic.

Services

We work with schools, communities, workplaces and policy makers to promote walking, cycling and public transport as realistic alternatives to the car for everyday journeys.

Education and young people (schools)
We work with nearly 200 schools across Northern Ireland to enable more pupils to travel actively on their journey to school, rather than rely on a lift from their parents.

Workplaces
Our new programme, Leading the Way with Active Travel, is a 3-year programme that started in Autumn 2014, commissioned by the Public Health Agency (PHA) to get people more active on their journeys to and from work and daily routine.

Communities
We're involved in a number of community initiatives to encourage people to make healthy choices for the journeys they take.

Advocacy
Our goal is to enable more people to be able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys.

Cycle training
We delivered National Standard cycle training ahead of the launch of the Belfast Bike Share Scheme in April 2015.
