The Community Empowerment Programme (CEP) is being delivered as part of the Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan. This project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The session, delivered by Eastside Greenways, highlighted how the Connswater Community Greenway revitalised local spaces, strengthened community engagement, and attracted new visitors to the area.
A lively discussion explored the challenges of long‑term regeneration, the importance of having a dedicated organisation to manage shared spaces, and how learning from East Belfast can be applied across the city.

EastSide Greenways, established by EastSide Partnership, continues to build on the success of the Greenway. As a catalyst for ongoing regeneration, the organisation aims to make East Belfast greener, safer, and better connected for everyone.

- Building new connections across the city.
- A willingness to collaborate for the benefit of all of Belfast.
- Applying ideas and insights to future community projects.
- Using the knowledge gained to strengthen their own neighbourhoods.
The visit marked an inspiring start to the CEP Best Practice series—demonstrating how shared learning, collaboration, and community‑led regeneration can help shape a more connected Belfast.

"We really enjoyed hosting a best‑practice visit showcasing Connswater Community Greenway. It was a fantastic opportunity to share how this has transformed the local area and why bringing these spaces to life through animation and activity is so important." - Ashleigh Roberts, Community Development Director, East Belfast Community Development Agency (EBCDA)
