Charities ‘in default’

20 Feb 2019 Denise Copeland    Last updated: 6 Sep 2019

There are currently 474 charities classified as being ‘in default’ on the charity register.

This means that these organisations have not filed their annual monitoring return, annual accounts and trustee annual report on time, that is,  within 10 months after their full financial year after registration with the Charity Commission.

Please check your details on the charity register to ensure that your organisation is not in default and that you know when your annual reporting information is due.  The Commission will automatically send three reminders to the charity via the 'contact email for Commission use' which the charity submitted to the Commission.  Please ensure that this contact email is correct so that the right person receives the notification.

The Commission has published a really useful tutorial video on how to complete the annual monitoring return which can be accessed here… https://www.charitycommissionni.org.uk/news/video-tutorial-annual-monitoring-return/

The Commission has also produced step by step guidance, including screen shots of the online questions which is very helpful for anyone completing the annual return.
