General Election 2024: New Cabinet and NI's new MPs

A landslide victory for Labour, a new Prime Minister and some shock results in Northern Ireland. Here’s a recap of the Election results, and who NI’s new MPs are.

Sir Keir Starmer MP and the Labour party won 411 seats, up 209 on their total from the 2019 election.

The Conservatives won 121 seats, down 244 from their 2019 total of 365 seats. The Liberal Democrats gained 61 seats for a total of 72, while the Scottish National Party won nine seats, down from 48 in 2019.

Reform UK won five seats and the Green Party of England and Wales won four. Sinn Féin won seven seats in Northern Ireland (unchanged on 2019), while the Democratic Unionist Party won five (down three on 2019).

Northern Ireland results

Sinn Féin held all seven of its seats and is now Northern Ireland's largest party at Westminster. The DUP lost three of its eight Westminster seats including North Antrim, where long serving MP Ian Paisley Jr lost out to the TUV’s Jim Allister. The Alliance Party remain with one seat as Stephen Farry lost his seat in North Down to Alex Easton (Independent), while Sorcha Eastwood won the Lagan Valley seat previously held by Sir Jeffrey Donaldson. Former Health Minister Robin Swann (UUP) , won the South Antrim seat from the DUP. The SDLP held on to both of their seats in Foyle and Belfast South & North Down.
