Get some green therapy for Mental Health Awareness Week
Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, we spoke to new NICVA member Positive Steps Outdoors, to hear more about what they do and how we all can get involved.
"At Positive Steps Outdoors we help you take preventative steps, promoting positive mental and physical wellbeing. We are people with a passion for the outdoors and 'green therapy'. We know from personal experience the benefits of taking care to visit the natural environment. These include positive mental health, feeling recharged, increased mental resilience and higher self esteem, as well as improved social connections and support network.
We provide unique experiences that help people overcome barriers to engaging with the natural environment, providing the space for physical activity and mental health self-care in the process.
We work and partner with all types of community and voluntary groups and organisations.
We invite you to join come to our Green Therapy Seminar and Walk on 19 May 23, during Mental Health Awareness Week. The workshops will be held in the Ormeau Baths, Belfast to explore mental and physical health challenges in communities and businesses, the value of improved mental and physical health and the role that engaging with the outdoors through green therapy plays in promoting wellbeing. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to put the learning into practice on the Belfast Hills.
During the morning seminar, following a welcome by ex-boxer Carl Frampton, you will have the chance to hear from speakers from Positive Steps Outdoors, Aware NI, Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, British Mountaineering Council, the Wellbeing Pathway, Belfast Hills Partnership and Mourne Heritage Trust. In the afternoon Positive Steps Outdoors and the Belfast Hills Partnership will provide a guided walk on Divis and Black Mountain.
We would love you to register for this FREE workshop and join us for a wonderful opportunity to enhance your wellbeing."
