On Friday 11 April 2025 NICVA was awash with colour and culture as member organisations from all four corners of Belfast celebrated Cultural Connections as part of Belfast Learning Festival 2025.

We were delighted to welcome over 60 attendees and 16 exhibiting cultural groups to NICVA for a vibrant event full of shared stories, learning, and celebration.

There were opportunities to sample some delicious food from Afghanistan, Poland and Nigeria, watch some Chinese dancing, hear some traditional Polish folk songs, try some Chinese writing and learn about the national costumes of East Timor and Nigeria. There was also a chance to have a bit o a yarn with the Ulster Scots Agency and pick up a cúpla focal from Foras na Gaeilge.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and come together to learn about other cultures.

This event is part of NICVA's dedication to celebrating diversity and creating inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can share experiences and culture and build relationships. This event has not only showcased the richness of Belfast’s cultural tapestry but also strengthened the sense of community and belonging that lies at the heart of everything we do with and for our members.

Cultural connections offered a space to network with people from a range of cultures, collaborate with other organisations, learn about different cultures and share experiences. We know that connections have been made and look forward to hearing more about the outcomes.

Thanks to all of our member organisations and to everyone who came along and made this a very special event.

"Cultural Connections is more than an event—it's a reflection of the Belfast we strive for: inclusive, vibrant, and united in diversity. As a member of NICVA’s Executive Committee and Founder of MSCNI, I am proud to witness how partnerships can truly bring communities together. When cultures connect, communities grow stronger. True belonging begins when we listen, learn, and celebrate the differences that unite us.” Jahswill Emmanuel, NICVA Executive Committee Member.

Let’s continue building bridges that empower, educate, and embrace everyone - not only in Belfast but across all of Northern Ireland.
