Community Development Capacity Building Toolkit

East Belfast Community Development Agency (EBCDA) launch their Communities in Transition, Community Development Capacity Building Toolkit.

On Thursday 10 June Michael Briggs, Executive Director for EBCDA, launched the Community Development Capacity Building Toolkit, as part of the celebration of Communities in Transition in east Belfast.  In producing this Toolkit, the goal was to enable The Mount and Ballymacarrett areas of east Belfast to become better places to live, as well as promoting and supporting positive behavioural change.  The title of the Toolkit is inspired by the words of Martin Luther King Jr. Michael Briggs said:

“We believe that it is never too late to stand up for justice and strive to change what is wrong or has gone wrong. Do what is right, simply means what it says – people by their actions and language are to do the right thing. This means in every situation from the workplace to the social club; from the sports field to family life, people should always seek to do the right thing; in doing so, community life will improve, and active citizenship will be encouraged."

What is the Toolkit?

The Toolkit is a resource for community organisations to use in their day-to-day work. It provides support, methodologies, session outlines and helpful information to aid community organisations in their local communities.  Split into two sections, it provides guidance, resources, and worksheets in key areas of community work including good governance, facilitation, coaching, relationships, and evaluation and monitoring.

Who is it for and where can I get it?

The Toolkit is for community groups and organisations from The Mount and Ballymacarrett areas of east Belfast who took part in the programme. You can request a hard copy by contacting Michael Briggs at EBCDA (details below). You can also view the toolkit online here.

You can hear more from Michael Briggs as he talks to Sarah Travers about the inspiration and motivation behind the development of this valuable community resource in the video below.
