From the 27 April 2022, charities, sports organisations and other voluntary-led organisations will now be permitted to sell their society lottery tickets for more than £1, but no more than £100 per ticket. The rules on expenses have also been simplified and will come into effect on the 27 April.
Other sections in the Act on offences, definition of cheating, industry levy and code of practice will require a commencement order to be made in the Assembly before they become law.
Provision to increase the caps on ticket sales and prizes have not been included in this Act, that is, the £80,000 cap on total value of ticket sales in each lottery has not been revised, neither has the £25,000 cap on the maximum value of a prize. Changes could be made to these caps by Secondary Regulation but we will have to wait to see if a future Minister will be in favour of making these changes.
