This popular course will give you practical tools and techniques to develop and further improve your knowledge, understanding and practice in management. This course is for middle managers, team leaders and those aspiring to be senior managers who work or volunteer in the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland. You do not have to have any previous management qualifications.

We start with an induction on Thursday 22 January 2026 and then classes will commence on 12 February every Thursday (with exception of assignment support sessions) until 23 April 2026. There will be time after this for completion of the larger assignment.  There is an expectation you will spend a further 2-3 hours in self-study for each module.

Induction has taken place but we can still accept bookings and will make information available if required to anyone registering from now to the start of the programme

How will it be delivered?

We deliver this training through a combination of 3 hour online interactive sessions, half or full day in-person sessions, guided self-study, assignment support sessions, one to one support if and when required for the completion of assignments.

What does it include?

This course focuses on 3 key areas:

  • Developing yourself as a leader
  • Leading others
  • Leading the organisation

Assessment

You need to achieve at least 37 credits for and ILM level 5 Diploma. There are 4 assignments and one presentation as detailed below:

  • Becoming an Effective Leader – assignment including a Personal Development Plan
  • Managing your own continuous professional development – assignment including completion of your own CPD plan
  • Improving your leadership through action learning – assignment and participation in 3 action learning sets
  • Making professional presentations – completion of a workbook and preparation and delivery of an 8 -10 minute presentation to your peers which will be recorded for self-reflection and assessment.

The cost of the certificate from The Institute is £250 and we have included this in the overall cost.
