Belfast Butterfly Club

Belfast Butterfly Club

The Belfast Butterfly Club aims to provide information, advice and support for transvestites, transsexuals, their partners, families and friends and to improve society's understanding of transgender behaviour.

Services

  • A confidential telephone helpline staffed by volunteers from the club.  Transgendered people frequently feel isolated and unable to confide in their family or usual circle of friends.  The existence of this free service gives people a friendly and understanding voice and a sympathetic ear, in complete confidence.
  • A confidential e-mail service ([email protected]) is also available.  This is becoming increasingly popular.
  • Monthly open meetings where transgendered people and their families can meet others in a similar position in a friendly and supportive environment.  This may be enough for some while others may opt to join the club for a nominal fee.
  • Regular weekly meetings for club members offering everything from friendship to something as simple as a safe haven.
  • Occasional one-off events such as conferences, seminars or social get-togethers.
  • Representation on relevant bodies, including the Northern Ireland Trans Forum, to give voice to the concerns of club members and the wider transgender population.
  • Using our influence to gain wider acceptance of the transgender way of life in Northern Ireland.
  • Promotion of and comment on transgender issues in the local press.
