Using crafts to help families express their grief and a glimpse of our Just Be journal, which gives families tools to help them learn to live with grief.

NICVA member The Little Forget Me Nots Trust is dedicated to ensuring no bereaved parent ever feels they have to navigate baby loss alone. Their trauma-informed, community-led support begins where clinical care ends - offering creative, compassionate spaces for families to process grief and begin learning to live with grief.

Through initiatives like the Just Begin Café and Just Be Me grief support programmes, the Trust helps families navigate baby loss with dignity and hope. They also work closely with partners, including healthcare providers, funders and community leaders to formalise referral routes and ensure long term sustainability of their services.

Impact in Action - Real stories of support

The work of The Little Forget Me Nots Trust is deeply personal, and its impact is powerful:

Just Be Me” Programme:

A mum hadn’t spoken her baby’s name in over a year - until Week 3 of the group. By the end, she was leading a session on honouring her child’s memory. These moments of courage, connection, and healing happen every single time the group gathers.

Creative Grief Workshops:

At a wreath-making session, one dad quietly shared that it was the first time he felt able to talk about his baby boy in public – and how using his hands helped him feel calmer.  He now returns to support other newly bereaved families.

Community Fundraisers:

From marathon runners to motorbike rides, we've seen people turn their grief into purpose. Last year, a family walked 10 miles on what would have been their baby’s 10th birthday and raised enough to fund a full support group.

Family Events:

Our Sibling Support Bauble-Making day brought together 20 children who had lost a brother or sister. One parent said, “It’s the first time our family was able to do something for all our children – both here and gone.”

These stories show that while grief never disappears, with the right support, it can be carried with hope, love, and even joy.

Support from NICVA

From the very beginning, NICVA has been a trusted partner in The Little Forget Me Nots Trust’s journey. The team shared:

“NICVA has always played a strong role in supporting community development, and many of our board members have worked alongside them over the years. So, when we founded the Trust, joining NICVA felt like a natural next step

They’ve offered invaluable support and guidance from day one. As we’ve grown and brought staff on board, we’ve seen even more of the benefits of membership.”

Most recently, NICVA helped shape the vision for their next project:

Their insight was incredibly grounding. It was just lovely to have someone who works with so many amazing charities really take the time to understand us. Their perspective gave us a real boost and clarity for the path ahead.”

Even the small things make a difference:

“Their regular emails alone are so helpful - they guide us in understanding what we should be focusing on and how to set ourselves up for long-term success.”
