Voluntary and Community organisations play a key role in advocating for anti-poverty policies and providing services to those who face poverty in our society. There can be several factors that link to causing and/or continuing the cycle of poverty, including poor housing, social exclusion, low wages, unemployment or low level of qualifications. Organisations working to help alleviate poverty may provide services, projects and training to their beneficiaries.

There are a number of charities, community groups and voluntary organisations across Northern Ireland working to prevent homelessness, help those who are homeless, and to ensure safe and appropriate housing is accessible for all. From providing temporary accommodation to helping people into long-term accommodation, from lobbying on housing issues to providing relevant legal, the voluntary and community sector plays a huge role in fighting against homelessness and inadequate housing.
