More than 100 business and charity representatives came together at Allstate NI on 25 October for the Community Connections Conference organised by NICVA and Business in the Community.

This sold-out event brought businesses and the voluntary and community sector together to shed light on the current challenges faced by communities and explore the pivotal role that businesses and the voluntary and community sectors can play in addressing these issues.

Attendees heard the government’s perspective from the Department for Communities, partnership working examples from Allstate, Women’s Aid, Norbrook Laboratories Ltd, the Building Community Pharmacy Partnership Programme, and had the opportunity to discuss key topics including social value, employee volunteering and a sustainable future.

Kieran Harding, Managing Director of Business in the Community commented: “This has been an inspiring and informative event – the first of its kind since pre-COVID. It is vital that we harness the power of business and communities and we are hopeful that following today’s event we can help shape a future networking series and address some of the common themes of interest including skills sharing, issue-based volunteering and social value.”

Celine McStravick, CEO of NICVA added: “Today’s event allowed businesses and voluntary and community organisations to develop vital connections. Strengthening these partnerships will bring transformative change to our communities, the economy and our society’s wellbeing. We look forward to organising future events together”
