Ballycastle Community Fridge

BCF was established in July 2022 after the need was identified for a community space where people could reduce, reuse and recycle food and other goods in order to save our planet from landfill waste.

We are a voluntary based organisation who provide a much-needed service to the whole community, and we help to educate our services users on food hygiene, recycling and the benefits of reducing food/plastic waste. We also aim to grow our own produce and serve those in need within the community with home cooked meals made from the items that we have grown.

Not only that, but we work alongside Co-Op and Lidl, who provide us with produce that has come towards the end of its shelf life. Our Fridge operates on a Tuesday and Thursday and people can come along and leave surplus food that they have into the fridge/freezers, and they can also take things home with them.

We also operate two community tables where we provide new & pre-loved items such as toys, books, clothes and household items for free in order to prevent them from going to landfill. As well as this, we provide our local Primary schools and playgroups with fresh bread each week.

During our Fridge hours, we provide tea/coffee to our service users to help reduce isolation, form connections, and we also signpost our visitors to other services within the area.
