Centre for Global Education

Services

The Centre for Global Education provides training and resources on international development issues.  We are currently delivering a three year teacher training programme designed to enhance classroom practice of global education across all curriculum subject areas.  The training is available to primary and post-primary teachers and senior leadership teams.  The Centre also publishes a bi-annual, peer reviewed, open access journal called Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review available at www.developmenteducationreview.com.  The journal promotes good practice in global education, shares new research in this area and enhances collaboration between practitioners in local and global contexts.

The Centre has a library on its premises with books, teaching packs, journals and DVDs on global issues for research and teaching purposes.  The library is located at 9 University Street, Belfast and users can carry out research onsite.  Also, Since 2011, the Centre has supported the delivery of education projects in the Gaza Strip in partnership with a Palestinian NGO called the Canaan Institute.  The projects provide psycho-social support to children suffering from the effects of conflict-related trauma.  Reports on this work are available on our web site with downloadable books, reports and articles (visit: www.developmenteducationreview.com).

The Centre works in partnership with organisations across the island of Ireland in the development and voluntary sector.  Our work is funded by the Department for International Development, Irish Aid, development NGOs and trade unions.  For more information on services contact [email protected]
