Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful aims to inspire everyone to take responsibility for creating cleaner, greener and more sustainable communities. In short, we are about behaviour change.  Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful achieves this by: supporting local authorities in tackling environmental crime through, for example, conferences and the Northern Ireland Environmental Quality Forum; supporting local action (with 6% of the NI population taking part in litter lifts in 2014); managing the world's largest environmental education programme for schools (engaging every school in NI, a world first); and running several award programmes for businesses and land-owners to raise and maintain environmental standards. Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful has existed in one form or another for over 60 years and was formerly part of Keep Britain Tidy. Today, as the cost of living and the cost of cleaning up spirals, we are seeking to grow civic pride, helping local people show they live here and love here.

Services

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful operates a number of services for businesses, land-owners and local authorities.  These include: TIDY Business, Blue Flag for beaches and marinas, Seaside Awards, Green Coast Awards, Green Flag for parks and open spaces, enforcement and duty of care training. With the impact of litter and dog fouling costing millions to clean up annually, and with the ongoing austerity and need to conserve resources, there are actions we can all take to save money, attract more visitors and help protect the environment upon which we rely for so many things.

For schools we run the international Eco-Schools programme and for everyone we operate a number of volunteering programmes such as The BIG Spring Clean, Adopt a Spot and Coast Care.  More recently we have launched  a new civic pride programme, Live Here Love Here, in partnership with the Department of the Environment, Tourism Northern Ireland and twelve of our local councils. This supports volunteering and provides small grants as well as delivering a high profile media campaign.
