Lisnaskea Historical Society

Our society has existed for over 30 years in Lisnaskea area, providing monthly heritage talks, local heritage tours, annual dinner and an annual Olde Tyme Market Day in the town each June which aims to educate the public and works with the town's 3 primary schools showcasing traditional heritage skills, so sharing the ways of the old fair days and their customs with new generations. School staff have primary contact with these children, meaning society volunteers have indirect contact with them only. Members carry out individual research for the benefit of the group and occasional publications aiming to educate the public on our shared history and so promote knowledge and pride of place. We aim to organise an annual trip for the benefit of our members. Our events are friendly and we encourage active interaction with tea/light refreshments to allow people to get to know each other and this helps members feel welcomed and avoid rural isolation, especially as the majority of our usual membership are elderly.
