Monkstown Boxing Club
For over four decades, Monkstown Boxing Club has been developing champions outside of the ring, as well as in it. Founded in 1983, by a group of local volunteers when there were few positive outlets for young people to participate in, particularly for young boys. Operating three nights a week, the coaches transformed a space which was a nursery school by day, into a pop-up boxing gym, putting up the bags and ring each night to meet the growing demand for boxing in the local area.
As we grew over time, the Club began to address the greater needs of the Monkstown and Rathcoole communities – like low employment levels and poor educational achievement through our afterschool and summer enrichment programmes. The results were undeniable. Since 2012, we have worked to level the playing field for all young people with engaging activities, the opportunity to meet and make friends, develop new skills, unlock their potential and have fun.
