Silvery Light Sailing

We are a not for profit limited company registered in Northern Ireland. Our main purpose is to restore to seaworthy operational use, an 1884 built, 25 metre, wooden sailing ship. An initial start up grant was received from The Heritage Lottery Fund to undertake a vessel survey and restoration plan. This was successful and a full restoration bid is now in process. The organisation is purely voluntary with approx 30 supporters. Once restored the vessel will operate as a community and sail training vessel based in Northern Ireland (Newry). Sustainability income will be derived from operating the vessel on a commercial basis. The organisation is in the process of establishing itself and although currently in formation will, depending upon the outcome of the HLF bid and other funders, expand to full charitable status.
