Together 21 Northern Ireland

Together 21 NI was established by parents of children with Down Syndrome to promote social activities for children who have Down syndrome and their siblings by providing social outings and activities which encourages social interaction and independence.

Services

Together 21 NI will also provide support and guidance to the parents and families of the children, giving parents the opportunity to socialise, find mutual support and share thoughts with other parents/carers, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety and enhancing wellbeing. The Group will also increase the capacity, knowledge and skills of parents and carers, resulting in enhanced care and healthy development of young children.

We will arrange services or training such as Makaton , Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, Speech Therapy. We will have monthly support group meetings, arrange for specialist speakers and respond to any issues arising, giving whatever practical support required. We are currently preparing a plan of events for the year ahead. We rely totally on fundraising, grant applications and donations.

The group is also an advocacy group for children with Down syndrome and are seeking for a permanent Centre for individuals with Down Syndrome to cover Belfast and surrounding areas. No such facility exists in Belfast.
