NICVA’s latest research into charitable giving in Northern Ireland examines who donates to charity, how much they donate and where they donate from.
The research suggests that despite the economic downturn people are continuing to give to charity. Overall the number of people in Northern Ireland claiming to give to charity has increased slightly, up 7% from 66% in 2011 to 73% in 2013.
Key findings include:
- Donations to charity from 16-24 year olds have more than doubled from 2011, up by over £5.00 per year
- donations from people aged 16-24 increased from an average of £3.60 in 2011 to £8.68 in 2013
- The average donation made by females has increased by £2.25 to £16.44 and the average donation made by men has decreased by £2.54 to £19.00.
- The most generous area in Northern Ireland is County Down, with an average donation of £23.89
