This OCN Level 2 Award in Community Development is the third of six courses developed and delivered by NICVA as part of the Community Empowerment Programme (CEP) and is only available to individuals living and/or working in the Belfast City Council area.

The Community Empowerment Programme is being delivered by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) and a network of community partners from across Belfast. It is one of the six key projects which are being delivered as part of the Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan. This project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Over the next three years this comprehensive initiative is designed to build community capacity across Belfast city, impacting 1,000 individuals and community organisations who live and operate across the Belfast City Council area.

Who is it for?

This course is exclusively for individuals who are living and/or working in the Belfast City Council area. 

You must be over 18 and it have an interest in and/or be involved in community development. It is also for people with experience in community development who would like to gain an accredited qualification.

The Open College Network (OCNNI) is an educational charity, developing nationally recognised qualifications and recognising the achievements of adults and young people.  They are a not for profit organisation and re-invest all of their resources back into the development of new qualifications and educational resources. 

The Open College Network is regulated by the Qualifications Regulators to develop and award a range of regulated qualifications. NICVA is an OCN Recognised Centre.

Details about the course

  • There are 6 units to complete, this will be delivered over 10 half day training sessions.
  • Training Sessions will take place in person in NICVA from 10am – 1pm
  • There are 6 assignments in total and learners will complete workbooks within the sessions that contribute to accreditation
  • Learners will also work together on a group task, which they will present at the final session
  • Assignment support will be available
  • All sessions will be delivered in-person at NICVA (with the exception of the Induction, which is online)
